Print In action.

Born from a shared belief that printmaking, its processes and its people deserve to be visible and celebrated.

What is Print In Action?

Print in Action was originally founded on three core areas of focus: supporting the printmaking communities of Plymouth and the wider South West; strengthening and supporting pathways and opportunities for emerging practitioners; and expanding public engagement with printmaking.

  • Printmaking continues to thrive across Plymouth and the wider South West, supported by a dynamic and dedicated creative community. Print in Action works to strengthen these networks by bringing practitioners together to exchange knowledge, foster collaboration, and advance the region’s printmaking practice.
  • Print in Action is committed to developing structured progression routes for students and graduates, contributing to the retention, professionalisation, and longterm sustainability of creative talent within the region. Through residencies and our creative intersection programmes artists and makers are supported in engaging with digital technologies.
  • The initiative enhances public engagement by providing avenues to explore the techniques of printmaking, meet the artists and makers who share their processes, and engage with creative communities in meaningful ways. It also enables audiences to purchase original prints, ensuring continued support for the craft and its practitioners.

Our First Festival: Print in Action 2022

Our inaugural Print in Action festival took place from April - October 2022, launching a six‑month programme of workshops, masterclasses, talks, and discussions that culminated in a vibrant three‑day celebration. The event brought printmakers from across Plymouth and beyond together, showcasing original prints, offering hands‑on sessions, and opening up Ocean Studios’ specialist facilities to the public.

Creative Intersection Day 2024: Exploring Cross‑Disciplinary Ideas

In February 2024, we introduced a new one‑day Creative Intersection Day, exploring how printmaking connects with technology, science, well‑being, storytelling, and more. With demonstrations, discussions, artist showcases, and a panel of cultural leaders, the event invited people to consider how traditional printmaking can evolve through new forms of creative intersection.

Creative Intersection Day 2026: Printmaking in a Digital World

Creative Intersection Day on 7 November invites creatives to explore new ways of working in an increasingly digital landscape. The event brings traditional printmaking together with projection mapping, immersive content, and 3D processes, offering talks, discussions, demos, and hands on opportunities. It’s a chance for artists, and makers to experiment, expand their practice, and discover innovative hybrid approaches that blend analogue and digital creativity.
