Our Story with David Attenborough
An immersive experience like no other...
Real Ideas have collaborated with the award-winning production crew at Bristol-based Open Planet Studios to rework ‘Our Story’, a breathtaking Attenborough-led storytelling experience that combines gigantic animations and stunning projections, real-world footage and full 360° immersion.
Our Story is a 50-minute-long filmic piece presented by Sir David as he draws on his lifetime of exploration to tell this incredible tale of people and planet.
Until now, a version of ‘Our Story’ has only been available at the Natural History Museum in London, where the show has been highly popular with people of all ages. From the 8th May, audiences will be able to witness the transformative piece in a thrillingly powerful new way in Plymouth’s world class Immersive Dome at Market Hall.
Market Hall’s Immersive Dome is the first-of-its-kind in Europe
Fitted with a custom projection system that covers a 210° field of view alongside an epic 19.1 speaker sound system, the dome provides an awe-inspiring new way of witnessing the incredible storytelling of Sir David Attenborough and the Open Planet Studios production team.
Delivering an awesome, and intensely personal sensory experience, viewers either sit on a custom-made beanbag or on specially provided chairs for guests with requirements, taking in the immersive sequences with a greater level of immersion, than can be provided by ‘straight screens.’
Sir David Attenborough said: “In this new immersive experience we explore two stories – the 4-billion-year epic of the Earth, and our own, relatively brief chapter, the story of humankind. These two stories are not, at this moment, aligned – but they could be. My hope is that anyone visiting the ‘Our Story’ experience will come to understand how important humanity is in writing the planet’s next chapter.”
The 50-minute ‘Our Story’ experience documents the captivating, interwoven tale of ourselves and our planet as never before, starting from Earth’s earliest beginnings. Enthralling visuals of our natural world will bring the experience to life, with our audiences encountering the emergence of Homo sapiens; our closest relatives, the gorillas; and discovering our impact on, and subsequent efforts to protect, the great whales of the oceans.
Sir David Attenborough not only explores the impact that we are having on our planet but also takes us to a wonderful future in which we come to work with the Earth rather than against it. The experience is accompanied by an original score by Tony Award and Olivier Award-nominated composer, Nick Powell.

Visitor information
Please arrive at least 15 minutes before the start time on your tickets. We recommend allowing more time during peak and busy periods. You may also like to allow time to visit our cafe during your visit, along with exhibitions and events we will have on throughout various time periods.
Mobile phones should be on silent during the experience.
The experience lasts for around 50 minutes.
What to expect
Our Story with David Attenborough is a fulldome immersive experience. Our immersive dome is 15 metres in diameter and offers 360° projection paired with a 19.1-speaker spatial sound system – making it one of the most advanced in Europe. It immerses you in visuals and sound. There will be moments of darkness, bright lights and moving patterns used during some parts of the show.
