LISKEARD, 19 January 2026 — Liskeard Library is celebrating an exciting milestone as 14‑year‑old Jennifer Hooper, a Year 10 student at Liskeard School and Community College, becomes the first young local writer to have a book added to the Cornwall Library Service collection since Real Ideas began running the library. Her debut fantasy novel, The Dragons, is now available on the shelves at Liskeard Library and will also be accessible digitally through BorrowBox as well as via major booksellers.
Jennifer not only wrote The Dragons herself but also designed the bold, imaginative cover. The novel is already available online through major retailers, including Amazon and Waterstones.com, and its addition to the Cornwall Library Service means readers across the county — and far beyond — can now discover her work.
Ed Hart, Venue & Partnership Lead at Liskeard Library, said:
“We’re delighted to feature the work of a young writer in our collection, both here in the library and on the global platform BorrowBox. Jennifer’s book will reach a huge audience, and we hope this achievement inspires many more young storytellers.”
Jennifer’s English teacher, Nick Griffin, praised her dedication:
“Jennifer has been an outstanding English student from the moment she joined us. Her fascination with how writers shape language, her thoughtful engagement with different genres, and her ability to develop her own voice make her an exceptional young author. In over 30 years of teaching, I’ve never had a student take a project like this all the way to publication. I was deeply impressed when she presented me with my own copy.”
Reflecting on the accomplishment, Jennifer said:
“It took a lot of hard work to write, so seeing my book in my local library — and knowing others can read it — is really exciting!”
Liskeard Library hopes Jennifer’s achievement will inspire more young writers, illustrators and creative minds throughout Liskeard and beyond.

About “The Dragons”
The Dragons follows six legendary dragons who once guarded the universe — until the ruthless Empress of Lumeria turns their power toward darker ambitions. At the centre of the conflict are childhood friends turned sworn enemies, Luca and Rose. As the Empress’s plans spiral out of control, Luca must confront a choice: rekindle the bond with the friend she thought she’d lost, or succumb to the corruption threatening their world. The story is an epic tale of adventure, self‑discovery and the unbreakable bonds that can mend even the most broken of worlds — and hearts.
