Illuminate Plymouth is a flagship light festival led and produced by Real Ideas Organisation, bringing immersive digital installations, light art, and creative experiences to locations including Royal William Yard and Market Hall Devonport.
Over multiple years, we developed Illuminate into one of Plymouth’s most recognisable cultural events, transforming spaces such as Royal William Yard and Market Hall in Devonport into vibrant destinations for audiences of all ages.

A Festival with Meaning
Illuminate also provided a platform for reflection and conversation.
Programmes explored themes such as the climate crisis, responding to global moments like COP26 and encouraging audiences to consider environmental challenges and their role in creating change.
By combining creativity with meaningful themes, Illuminate delivered experiences that were both visually impactful and thought-provoking.
Connecting Plymouth Through Culture
Illuminate activated key locations across Plymouth, including:
- Royal William Yard
- Ocean Studios
- Market Hall, Devonport
By working across these spaces, we created a connected, city-wide experience that encouraged exploration and supported local venues and communities.
