Green Community Business – Nurturing Nature-Based Enterprise

See how we supported 10 community businesses and launched 7 green enterprises in Plymouth, securing £322k and engaging 200 volunteers in community-led urban nature stewardship.

Introduction
Between 2019–2022 we partnered in Plymouth’s Future Parks Accelerator and Green Minds programmes to develop new approaches to urban nature stewardship and green enterprise.

Our role
We helped harness the city’s social enterprise culture to support community-led ventures and shift perceptions of urban nature.

What we delivered

  • Enrich, a nine-month social innovation programme with 50 council, community, and social sector participants
  • Three years’ support for community businesses, backed by a dedicated fund
  • Immersive technology experiences and public engagement activities
  • Support for enterprising models of community-led parks management

Impact

  • 10 community businesses supported and 7 new enterprises launched
  • 5 new jobs and £322k additional funding secured
  • 200 active volunteers and 500 people engaged through events
  • Community enterprises increasing biodiversity, tree cover, and climate resilience
