Drawn to Golitha: A Nature Walk & Design Workshop with Artist Sam Halstead

Join local artist Sam Halstead for an inspiring day of discovery, creativity, and connection to place at Golitha Falls. This unique Walk & Draw workshop invites you to explore the landscape, learn about its layered history, and help shape artwork that will be represented on a new bench at Golitha National Nature Reserve (NNR).

What the Day Involves

Your morning begins with pick‑up from Liskeard Library, where a minibus will take the group to Golitha Falls. Alongside Sam and the site managers, you’ll tour the outstanding scenery and unique habitats of this National Nature Reserve. As the bench theme focuses on the historic environment, the walk will also explore how the landscape was used in the past by those who worked here. This includes visiting historical remains, natural features, and viewpoints such as the hilltop mine shafts—using drawing as a way to observe and respond to the environment.

Prior creative experience is not required. Sam will guide you through the artistic process throughout the day. All materials are provided, though you are welcome to bring your own sketchbook or camera if you’d like.

After the walk, the minibus will return you to Liskeard Library for lunch and the afternoon workshop.

Please note:
➡️ The route includes uneven terrain and uphill walking, so a moderate level of mobility and fitness is required.

Create Artwork for a New Bench

After a warm lunch of soup, a roll, and a cuppa, Sam will lead a relaxed creative session where you’ll develop your sketches and impressions into final design ideas. These will contribute directly to the artwork for a new bench that will be installed at Golitha—offering a rare chance to leave a creative imprint on a much‑loved local landscape.
