Perfect for: Those with some prior lino experience or anyone who has completed a beginners linocut course.
This course is ideal for people looking to deepen their understanding of colour layering, block planning, and multi‑stage carving. By the end of the course, you’ll have created your own reduction print edition and gained confidence to continue exploring printmaking independently.

What to expect
Here's what you will explore during this short course:
Week 1: Introduction to the reduction method, planning your design, preparing your block, and setting up registration.
Week 2: Carving and printing your first (lightest) colour layer, including ink mixing and test prints.
Week 3: Carving for your second colour layer, registration checks, and printing mid‑tones.
Week 4: Final carving stages, printing your third (and optional fourth) colour layer, finishing your edition, and group review.
Facilitator
Jess Van Baalen is an artist and printmaker inspired by nature, folklore, and storytelling. Since graduating from Brighton University in 2022 with a degree in Illustration, she has focused on combining the natural world with narrative and myth. Drawn to the tactile process of Lino printing, she creates bold, textured work that celebrates landscape, cultural stories, and everyday magic.

All equipment and materials for the course will be supplied.
Please feel free to bring any linocut tools you may have that you want to have a go with.
We have materials such as quality papers available to buy at the beginning of each session if needed.
Please bring ideas, images, sketchbooks etc. to help with inspiration.
