Speaker
Please join sculptor George Meyrick for the inaugural talk: Thinking Space
Sculptor and draughtsman George Meyrick was born in London, studied at St Martin’s School of Art, Brighton Polytechnic, and Chelsea School of Art. He has lived and worked predominantly in the South West of England apart from a seven year spell in Yorkshire returning in 2023 to settle in Plymouth.
George Meyrick has been making sculpture since the mid-seventies, taking shapes which we expect to see on flat surfaces and steering them deftly into the third dimension. His wall constructions, intriguing, elegant, beautifully coloured and deceptively simple in concept and appearance, offer new possibilities of working with flat shapes in space.
His work is held in numerous public collections including The Arts Council, Leeds Art Gallery, The British Council and an archive of his work from the 1970’s and 1980’s is owned by The Henry Moore Institute.
