Discover the art of linocut in this hands-on, beginner-friendly course designed for anyone curious about printmaking. Over three weeks, you’ll learn the fundamentals of this expressive technique, from designing and carving your own block to creating beautiful prints.
Ages 18+
You will attend 3 workshops for the ticket price:
Tuesday 3rd March, 10th March & 17th March
What you’ll explore:
- Week 1: Introduction to linocut tools and materials, safety tips, and basic design principles.
- Week 2: Carving techniques, experimenting with textures, and preparing your block for printing.
- Week 3: Inking and printing your design, exploring colour options, and finishing touches.
No prior experience is needed—just bring your creativity and enthusiasm! By the end of the course, you’ll have your own set of prints and the confidence to continue exploring this rewarding art form.
Perfect for: Beginners, hobbyists, and anyone curious about traditional printmaking.
Facilitator:
Jess Van Baalen is an artist and printmaker inspired by nature, folklore, and storytelling. Since graduating from Brighton University in 2022 with a degree in Illustration, she has focused on combining the natural world with narrative and myth. Drawn to the tactile process of Lino printing, she creates bold, textured work that celebrates landscape, cultural stories, and everyday magic.

All equipment and materials for the Beginners course will be supplied.
Please feel free to bring any linocut tools you may have that you want to have a go with.
We have materials such as quality papers available to buy at the beginning of each session if needed
Please bring ideas, images, sketch books etc to help with inspiration.
