RIO is a social enterprise, which means we do business differently.

We invest all our profits back into our work with young people; providing them with the opportunity and support to make change happen using their own ideas, energy and ability.

Where traditional enterprises trigger business ventures which make money and grow, generating profit for a small group of people, social enterprises spark business ventures which consider people, planet and profit equally – so that the money social enterprises make and the growth they achieve directly target social and/or environmental needs.

At RIO we apply our energy and imagination within a moral framework that equally values social, environmental and economic benefits.

This is our triple bottom line.

Economically: So that we continue to have significant impact and deliver real change, RIO operates on a sound economic footing, earning income from contracts and social enterprise business units. As a social enterprise we aim to make a profit; enabling us to be independent, take risks and invest in innovative ideas that change lives.

Socially: We focus our interventions in places where we will have the most significant and longest lasting impact and where we can work in partnership with young people to make change happen for themselves and to the way things work for others.

Environmentally: We are constantly improving our systems and ways of working to reduce negative impact on the environment, and we will find ways to ensure that along with us, everyone we work with continually asks relevant and perceptive questions about environmental impact, based on good knowledge and best practice. On top of that we will undertake work that actively engages young people with their local environments and leads to direct and positive action.
